Theater group planning holiday show

GREENFIELD – The Friends of the Theater group is already planning its December fundraiser show, and is accepting sponsorships now.

Christmas at the Ricks will be at 7:30 pm. Dec. 7 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts, 122 W. Main St., Greenfield. The show will feature soloists, small and large ensembles and more after the tree lighting ceremony at Depot Street Park.

Quilt guild to host lecture, craft session

GREENFIELD — The Common Threads Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 18, with a lecture on linen renewal.

Wanda Black will speak about what to do with old, embroidered linens. There will be a workshop after the lecture to make items. Bring an embroidered item such as a pillowcase or dresser runner, two or three coordinating Fat Quarters, a half yard of single-sided fusible fleece; a 10-inch or longer zipper, sewing machine and sewing supplies, and a sack lunch. The meeting will be at NineStar Connect, 2243 E. Main St., Greenfield.

Herbal teas, recipes to be featured at event

GREENFIELD – Herbal teas will be the program topic at the Hancock County Herb Society meeting in October.

Joyce Miler of Rushville’s Huckleberry Hutch will discuss how to gather and prepare ingredients for making herbal teas, then make and share some of her favorite recipes.

The program begins at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen, located behind the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Museum, 250 W. Main St., Greenfield.

Retired teacher to be honored

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Retired Teachers Association will honor all newly retired teachers from Hancock County in an upcoming event. The meeting will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 11 at Nameless Creek Camp, 2675 S. 600E., Greenfield. Any retired teacher living in Hancock County or who has retired from Hancock County schools is invited to attend. Jennings becomes junior member of angus association

GREENFIELD — Bobby J. Jennings IV of Greenfield is a new junior member of the American Angus Association.

Junior members of the association are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association and take part in sponsored shows and other national and regional events.

The American Angus Association is the largest beef breed association in the world, with nearly 22,000 active adult and junior members. Visit NJAA.info for more information.

Harvest event coming to HCPL

GREENFIELD — “Happy Harvesting” is the theme of an upcoming Green Thumb Project event at the Hancock County Public Library.

Learn about food preservation and the importance of sustainable gardening in a free educational event sponsored by the Hancock County Soil and Water Conservation district and the Hancock County Master Gardener Association.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Sept.21 with presentations and educational booths from 10 a.m. to noon. The library is at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Register in advance at hcplibrary.org.

Steak ‘n Bake ‘n Raffle returns this month

GREENFIELD – The annual Steak ‘n Bake ‘n Raffle, hosted by the Rotary Club of Greenfield, is coming up Sept. 21 and tickets are available now.

The annual event returns to the Hancock County Fairgrounds from 6-10:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Last year, Hancock County nonprofits raised more than $190,000 through the event.

Quilt group meets monthly

GREENFIELD – The Night Owls Quilt Guild meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of every month at the Patricia Elmore Center in Greenfield.

Newcomers are welcome; bring any “show and tell” quilts and share quilting ideas.

Riley Wranglers accepting new members

CUMBERLAND – Square dance lessons are available in Cumberland.

Riley Wranglers is an active group of square dancers with members dancing all around the state and country, in addition to regular club dances.

Learn modern Western square dancing with lessons from 7-9 p.m. beginning Sept. 18 at Cumberland United Methodist Church, 219 N. Muessing St., Cumberland.
