Octagon House to benefit from dinner
SHIRLEY — A benefit fish fry is coming up 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 7 in Shirley.
The event is at the Jane Ross Reeves Octagon House, 400 S. Railroad Street, Shirley. A fish sandwich, sides, drink and dessert is available for $14; proceeds go to the maintenance and upkeep of the historic structure. Free tours of the building are also available that day.
Farmer Field Day Sept. 9
GREENFIELD – Learn about soil health at an event coming up in September.
Hancock County Soil Health Farmer Field Day is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at For-Lou Farms of Lori and Evan Divine, 2190 W. 200N, Greenfield.
The event is free. Topics include farm drone demonstration, cover crops, FSA updates and loans, soil pits and more. Registration begins at 8:30 am.; snacks and beverages will be provided.

Local car show to benefit children’s hospital
MAXWELL – A local company is hosting a family-friendly car show Sept. 14, with proceeds benefiting Riley Hospital for Children,
The Hoosier Hot Wheels Car Show is 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at Peak Garage Equipment, 212 N. Main St., Maxwell. All children will receive a Hot Wheel toy. Prizes will be awarded to participants in the car show, and dash plaques will be given to the first 100 cars. For more, visit peak-ge.com.
EH to host community meeting
CHARLOTTESVILLE – Eastern Hancock schools will host its first community engagement meeting for the 2024-25 school year in October.
The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Thrive Center of the Community Foundation of Hancock County, 971 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield. The meeting is an event for community members to hear updates about the school corporation and gather input from community partners to continue to improve collaboration and opportunities for students. Homecoming parade, game set for G-CHS
GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central High School will host homecoming activities next week, culminating with the homecoming parade at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 13 and the homecoming football game. Game kickoff is at 7 p.m. at the Hancock Health Stadium.
The parade route starts at the Greenfield Intermediate School parking lot, travels west on Park Avenue, south on Noble Street, west on North Street, north on Broadway Street back up to Park Avenue. The parade theme is “Now Playing” and includes the G-CHS marching band, football team, cheerleaders, and various clubs and organizations.
