Steak ‘n Bake ‘n Raffle returns in September

GREENFIELD – The annual Steak ‘n Bake ‘n Raffle, hosted by the Rotary Club of Greenfield, is coming up Sept. 21 and tickets are available now.

The annual event returns to the Hancock County Fairgrounds from 6-10:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Last year, Hancock County nonprofits raised more than $190,000 through the event.

Riley Wranglers accepting new members

CUMBERLAND – Square dance lessons are available in Cumberland.

Riley Wranglers is an active group of square dancers with members dancing all around the state and country, in addition to regular club dances.

Learn modern Western square dancing with lessons from 7-9 p.m. beginning Sept. 18 at Cumberland United Methodist Church, 219 N. Muessing St., Cumberland. Bed race event returns to fairgrounds

GREENFIELD – The Four Post 400 Bed Race Challenge returns this September.

Race a wheeled bed at the Hancock County Fairgrounds with a group of friends, coworkers or nonprofit organization. Additional prizes are given for best-decorated bed.

The event is a fundraiser for the Dale E. Kuhn American Legion Post 119. It is set for Sept. 14. Vendors open at 11 a.m., a presentation of the nations’ colors, pledge and invocation is at noon; Hometown Heroes will be at 1:15 p.m.; the Parade of Beds is at 12:30 p.m. and races start at 1 p.m. A cornhole tournament for all levels is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The legion is currently seeking sponsors for the event, ranging from $50 to $500. Those who want to participate can join for $75 if using one of the legion’s beds, or $50 by bringing your own bed. Send registration information and fees to American Legion, P.O. Box 96B, Greenfield. Registration should include a team name, members of the team and ages, and parents’ signature if under 18. Birding group events open in September

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Birders are hosting community bird watching events at local parks in September.

The group, in collaboration with Greenfield Parks and Recreation and the National Audubon Society, will host events to gather and view birds at 8 a.m. Sept. 14 at Thornwood Nature Preserve and 8 a.m. Sept. 28 at Beckenholdt Park. Pulled pork meal Saturday

GREENFIELD – A pulled pork meal is coming up 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 7, hosted by Hancock Lodge 101.

The $9.99 meal includes a sandwich and a choice of two sides, coleslaw, baked beans or macaroni and cheese. Bottled water is an additional $1; soft drinks, $2. Chamber to host September meeting

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce will learn about Zoey’s Place Child Advocacy Center at an upcoming meeting.

Retired teacher to be honored

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Retired Teachers Association will honor all newly-retired teachers from Hancock County in an upcoming event. The meeting will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 11 at Nameless Creek Camp, 2675 S. 600E., Greenfield. Quilt group meets monthly

GREENFIELD – The Night Owls Quilt Guild meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of every month at the Patricia Elmore Center in Greenfield.

Newcomers are welcome; bring any “show and tell” quilts and share quilting ideas.
