Baker’s Best contest Sept. 28

GREENFIELD — All Hancock County residents are welcome to join in the Baker’s Best contest. The program is sponsored by Tuttle Orchards and the Hancock County Extension Homemakers, and this year’s theme is “pumpkin.”

The contest will be 9-10 a.m. Sept. 28 at the Hancock County Extension office, 972 E. Park Ave., Greenfield. Judging will begin at 10:15 a.m.; winners will have their picture taken along with their baked product displayed at the Home Arts Show during the festival at the Hancock County Courthouse Annex.

The grand champion, in addition to receiving a $50 cash prize, will present their winning baked entry to the mayor at the Mayor’s Breakfast festival event Oct. 5. See the rileyfestival.com for rules.

Harvest event coming to HCPL

GREENFIELD — “Happy Harvesting” is the theme of an upcoming Green Thumb Project event at the Hancock County Public Library.

Learn about food preservation and the importance of sustainable gardening in a free educational event sponsored by the Hancock County Soil and Water Conservation district and the Hancock County Master Gardener Association.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Sept.21 with presentations and educational booths from 10 a.m. to noon. The library is at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Register in advance at hcplibrary.org.

Farmer Field Day Sept. 9

GREENFIELD – Learn about soil health at an event coming up in September.

Hancock County Soil Health Farmer Field Day is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at For-Lou Farms of Lori and Evan Divine, 2190 W. 200N, Greenfield.

The event is free. Topics include farm drone demonstration, cover crops, FSA updates and loans, soil pits and more. Registration begins at 8:30 am.; snacks and beverages will be provided.

Home arts, quilt show coming up

GREENFIELD – The Riley Festival Home Arts & Quilt Show is coming up, open to amateur artists, crafters, quilters and more of any age and from any county.

Exhibits must have been made, completed or prepared by the exhibitor and never before exhibited at the Riley Festival. Exhibits will be judged in two categories: junior for ages 16 and under; and senior for ages 17 and above. All entries in all categories are due between noon and 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Hancock County Courthouse annex, 111 American Legion Plaza, Greenfield. Ag association to host fundraiser

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Ag Association will host a consignment auction is Sept. 14 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds, 620 Apple St., Greenfield.

Proceeds of the event benefit the upkeep of the fairgrounds. Consigner commission is 25% on inside items and 10$ on outside items. Deadline to consign items is Sept. 11.

Master gardeners to host plant sale

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Master Gardener Association will host a fall pant sale in September.

The event features fall annuals, perennials, live demonstrations, and master gardeners on site to answer questions.
