GREENSBURG — In a battle of state-ranked Mid-Eastern Conference teams, it was Eastern Hancock winning handily on Friday night.

On the road at Class 1A No. 5 North Decatur, the Royals, ranked No. 3 in 2A, opened up conference play with a convincing 34-8 victory.

In the first six minutes of the game, the Royals had all the points that they would need.

Junior quarterback Elijah Edon hit Evan Wheeler on an 11-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring and then found Austin Brown on the two-point conversion.

Later in the quarter, following a North Decatur turnover, Mark Kube punched in the second Eastern Hancock score from three yards out to make things 14-0, but this time the Royals failed the conversion.

A 5-yard touchdown run from Edon with 2.7 seconds left in the opening half pushed the lead to 20-0 entering the break.

The Chargers struck first in the third quarter on a 5-yard touchdown pass and were successful on the conversion to close the gap to 20-8.

That was as much as the Royals defense would let them get.

A late third-quarter 10-yard touchdown strike from Edon to Hayden Jackson increased the lead even more, and Edon’s third touchdown pass of the night early in the fourth quarter completed the scoring.

Edon found senior tight end Kayden Ruble on a 15-yard pass for his first touchdown of the season.
