New Palestine’s Josh Ranes looks back as he scores an 83-yard touchdown against Decatur Central in the first half. The game was called at halftime due to lightning with the score tied 21-21. The game will resume today at 10 a.m. at Kelso Stadium.

New Palestine and Mt. Vernon will both complete their Friday night football games on Saturday.

The Dragons, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, were tied 21-21 at halftime against Class 5A No. 6 Decatur Central when the game was delayed due to lightning. Shortly before 11 p.m., officials announced the game would resume at New Palestine’s Kelso Stadium at 10 a.m. Saturday.

New Palestine scored three second-quarter touchdowns. Josh Ranes had an 83-yard run to tie the game 14-14. He had scored on a one-yard run for the Dragons first score.

A 22-yard touchdown pass on fourth down from Jacob Davis to Cameron Rollyson gave the Dragons a 21-14 lead midway through the second quarter, but the Hawks tied it before the break.

A weather delay with 7:49 remaining in the fourth quarter put a halt to Mt. Vernon’s game at Franklin Community.

The Marauders trail 21-14 and have the ball on the Franklin 44 when the game resumes Saturday at noon.

Mt. Vernon took an 8-0 first-quarter lead on a touchdown by Joliba Brogan, followed by a successful two-point conversion.

The Marauders added a pair of Rylan Vinard field goals, including a 34-yarder.

Greenfield-Central’s home game was delayed by lightning with the Cougars leading 35-0 over Greensburg with just 10 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Officials later called the game final, giving the Cougars their second win of the season.

Eastern Hancock was the only county team to complete a full game Friday.

At Greensburg against Class 1A No. 5 North Decatur, the Class 2A No. 3 Royals won 34-8.
