Kathleen Sue (Phipps) Garner, a vibrant soul cherished by her loving family, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024, in Greenfield, Indiana, at the age of 89. Born on March 12, 1935, in Knox County, IN, Kathleen’s life was a testament to her strength and caring nature.
A proud graduate of her local high school, Kathleen found her calling as a diligent clerk typist at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, where she made countless friends and left a lasting impact. Her passions were as bright as her favorite color, yellow, with her love for reading and admiration for ladybugs bringing joy to her and those around her. She enjoyed attending Bruceville Christian Church in her younger years and later attending Park Chapel Christian Church in Greenfield, IN.
Kathleen’s memory will be lovingly cherished by her son, Steven Douglas Bates, Sr of Greenfield, IN; her daughter, Kathy Diane Lemp of Warsaw, IN; her adoring five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Gib Garner; two previous husbands; an infant son, Leon Harvey Bates; sisters Geraldine Boyles and Marjory Garner; mother, Edith nee Sartor Phipps and father, V.L.”Dick” Lewis Phipps. Her unwavering spirit and loving heart will forever be remembered.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Bruceville Cemetery at 11:00 am with Steve Huff officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Bruceville Christian Church, Bruceville, IN or Park Chapel Christian Church, Greenfield, IN.
