Prep roundup: Cougars pick up first conference win

Greenfield-Central’s girls soccer team evened its Hoosier Heritage Conference record at 1-1 with a 4-1 victory over visiting Yorktown Wednesday.

Paige McCarley scored on a penalty kick, off a foul in the box on Aubry Bush, and Bush, Ainsley Robinson and Chloe Gardner added goals in the victory.

McCarley had a pair of assists and Carly Means also had a helper. Caroline Felver had three saves.

Greenfield-Central is 2-4 overall. Yorktown dropped to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the HHC.

Marauders battle No.1 Guerin to tie

Talaya Broaders scored a second-half goal, assisted by Kylie Brandes, for Mt. Vernon’s girls soccer team to earn a 1-1 tie at Class 2A No. 1 Guerin Catholic Wednesday.

Goalkeeper Ava Stephenson had seven saves.

Mt. Vernon is 3-0-1 on the season. Guerin is 0-2-2, with losses to Class 3A No. 4 Carmel (2-1), Class 3A No. 7 Westfield (2-1) and a tie to Class 3A No. 16 Zionsville (0-0).

Marauders take care of Panthers

Mt. Vernon’s girls volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory at North Central Wednesday.

Mt. Vernon’s overall record improved to 6-3 with set scores of 25-18, 25-8, 25-20.

Olivia Johnson had 11 kills. Jaycee Jones added eight kills and three blocks. Alivia Morgan had eight kills and two blocks.

Vizma Erkmanis had five service aces. Sierra Holverson had seven digs and three aces.

Aubry Dowling had eight digs and Avery Delello recorded seven digs.

Setter Ava Whitmore had 29 assists.

The Panthers are 5-8.

Cougars get road win

At Richmond Wednesday, Greenfield-Central’s girls volleyball team defeated the host Red Devils 3-1.

The Cougars won by set scores of 20-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-10.

Greenfield-Central improved to 6-1. Richmond dropped to 4-7.

At Winding Ridge Golf Course Wednesday, Greenfield-Central’s girls golf team defeated Lawrence North 233-236.
