Book events, family activities planned at libraries

GREENFIELD – Local libraries are hosting family parties, story times, crafting events and more throughout the month of September.

Children ages 6 to 12 and their families are welcome to the Third Annual Back to Hogwarts Night Sept. 9 at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. The Harry Potter-themed event includes activities and games based on the popular book series.

The Greenfield library is also hosting chess club for children and teens on Mondays; story times for babies, toddlers and preschoolers throughout the month; and family yoga on Wednesdays. Teens are welcome to a movie night Sept. 16 and tiny tabletop games Sept. 5. The library is at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. For more details and to register, visit hcplibrary.org.

In New Palestine, the Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL offers family story time and Little Crafters on Wednesdays; a bi-weekly after school hangout for teens Sept. 12 and 26; a teen story making event Sept. 24; and a science squad for tweens ages 8-12 Sept. 17. The Vernon Township Public Library in Fortville offers Play & Learn Storytime every Wednesday; a book club for grades 4-6 Sept. 9; and Little Learners on Monday mornings, offering early literacy and social skills for toddlers and preschoolers. Farmer Field Day Sept. 9

GREENFIELD – Learn about soil health at an event coming up in September.

Hancock County Soil Health Farmer Field Day is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at For-Lou Farms of Lori and Evan Divine, 2190 W. 200N, Greenfield.

The event is free. Topics include farm drone demonstration, cover crops, FSA updates and loans, soil pits and more. Registration begins at 8:30 am.; snacks and beverages will be provided.

Ag association to host fundraisers

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Ag Association will have two fundraisers in September.

A golf tournament benefiting the West Commons Building is Sept. 7 at Arrowhead Golf Course. A consignment auction is Sept. 14 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds, 620 Apple St., Greenfield. Learn more or register for the events at yourhancockfairgrounds.com.

Square dance lessons available this fall

GREENFIELD – Square dance lessons for all ages are available starting in September.

Swinging Singles will host lessons this fall, from 7-9 p.m. on Monday evenings in September. Events are at Buck Creek Township Community Room, 5809 W. Airport Blvd., Greenfield.
