Prep roundup: Marauders sweep Guerin

Mt. Vernon’s girls volleyball team improved to 5-3 on the season with a 3-0 victory at Guerin Catholic Tuesday.

The Marauders won by set scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-12.

Setter Ava Whitmore recorded a double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs.

Sierra Holverson led the attack with 12 kills. Jasmine Henderson had eight and Alivia Morgan had seven.

Olivia Johnson totaled four blocks, including two solos. Aubry Dowling added 10 digs.

Guerin Catholic dropped to 1-4.

Boys tennis

Dragons win at Franklin

New Palestine’s boys tennis team improved to 5-1 with a 4-1 victory at Franklin Tuesday.

Arjomand Khokhar won the No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-2. Brady Torzewski picked up a victory at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-2.

Doubles wins came from the No. 1 group of Moses Haynes and Max Havel, 7-6 (5), 6-4, and the No. 2 team of Carson Rush and Andrew Hahn, 6-1, 6-3.

Joey McPike lost at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2.

Cougars win road HHC match

Greenfield-Central’s boys tennis team won its Hoosier Heritage Conference opener 5-0 at New Castle Tuesday.

The Cougars improved to 6-0 with the win.

Nathan Roberts won the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 7-6 (3). Alex Michalek won at No. 2 6-3, 7-5 and Ethan Ortwein was victorious at No.3 7-5, 7-6 (1).

The No. 1 doubles group of Luke Sitzman and Jacob Welch won 6-4, 7-6 (1) and the No. 2 team of Nolan Frye and Kasen Jarnecke won 6-3, 6-2.

Heat postponements

Boys tennis matches for Eastern Hancock at Rushville and Mt. Vernon at Guerin Catholic were postponed due to extreme heat.

Dragons win

New Palestine’s boys soccer team improved to 2-2 with a 3-2 victory at Whiteland Tuesday.

Cole Christopher had two goals and Eli Martin added the other in the victory. Paxton Holmes had two assists and Joseph Hicks also had an assist.

Whiteland dropped to 0-3-1.

Match cancelled

Greenfield-Central’s boys soccer match against Carmel, scheduled for Tuesday at the G-C Soccer Complex, was cancelled.
