New nature center to open soon
Greenfield – The new Thornwood Nature Center will open in September, and a grand opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting event is planned.
Greenfield Parks and Recreation will have a celebration 11 a.m. Sept. 20 at 1707 S. Morristown Pike, Greenfield.
Join the Parks Department, Greenfield mayor Guy Titus and the Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce for this next evolution of Thornwood Preserve. There will be refreshments immediately after.
The nature center will be open to the public the next day.
Thornwood Nature Preserve is a 40-acre woodland, donated in part by Herb and Judy Brown for the enjoyment of all. This park features seven trails, ranging in difficulty from moderate to rugged; a campground open weekends only; a diversity of habitats, wildlife, birds, native flora and fauna; 13 blue learning posts; three creeks; a suspension bridge; and a variety of family nature programing.

Libraries to host events for adults
GREENFIELD – Several events are open for adults in September at local libraries.
The Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield will host a Brown Bag book discussion Sept. 10; genealogy open research Sept. 11; Writers Helping Writers Sept. 19; Crafternoon Club Sept. 17; and a computer workshop for “absolute beginners” Sept. 16. Learn how to avoid identity theft and scams in a special workshop Sept. 30. Hancock County Master Gardeners will host workshops on food preservation and harvest Sept. 21.
