New Palestine’s boys tennis team ended a seven-year dry spell over Hoosier Heritage Conference power Delta with a 4-1 win over the Eagles on Monday at New Palestine.

In the first win over Delta since 2017, the Dragons got two wins in singles and swept doubles matches.

Moses Haynes and Max Havel picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. In the tightest match of the night, the No. 2 doubles team of Joey McPike and Andrew Hahn won 6-7 (1), 6-2, 6-2.

No. 1 singles player Arjomand Khokhar won 6-4, 6-4. Carson Rush won at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-4.

At No. 2 singles, Brady Torzewski lost 6-4, 7-6 (6).

Mt. Vernon sweeps Pendleton

Mt. Vernon defeated host Pendleton Heights 5-0 Monday in a Hoosier Heritage Conference boys tennis match.

In singles play, No. 1 Manny Downs won 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 Gavin Weaver won 6-2, 6-0 and, at No. 3, Tate Cougill won 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles matches, the No. 1 group of Max Orelup and Bryndan Wylie won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Ethan Erdos and Eli Muterspaugh won 6-0, 6-3.

Cougars win thriller over FC

Greenfield-Central won two three-set matches and picked up a 3-2 victory at Franklin Central Monday.

No. 2 singles player Alex Michalek won 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 and the No. 2 doubles team of Nolan Frye and Kasen Jarnecke won 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Nathan Roberts won his match at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 3 singles, Ethan Ortwein lost 6-2, 6-2. At No. 1 doubles, Luke Sitzman and Jacob Welch lost 6-4, 6-2.

Dragons blank Red Devils

New Palestine scored four first-half goals and added five more in the second for a 9-0 victory over visiting Richmond Monday.

Tylar Whitaker and Gabby Brown each had big scoring nights for the Dragons.

Whitaker had four goals and an assist. Brown had a hat trick and an assist. Dawsyn Cooper and Nevaeh Gebhart added goals.

Rylee Hurst contributed two assists. Addison Lindell and Marley Turso also had assists.

The Dragons are 2-1 overall. Richmond dropped to 0-4.

Girls volleyball

Eastern wins MEC opener

Eastern Hancock’s girls volleyball team opened its Mid-Eastern Conference season with a 3-0 victory over Wes-Del.

The Royals won by set scores of 25-12, 25-20, 25-14.

Eastern Hancock is 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the MEC. Wes-Del is 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
