GREENFIELD – Rummage that closet or plan something new for costume-themed events coming this fall to downtown Greenfield.

But the parties are for the adults, so plan to release your inner child thanks to Greenfield Main Street Inc.

Boos and Brews is Oct. 26, featuring costume contests, live music and food and drink specials.

I Love the 80s to Death is Sept. 14 as a murder mystery dinner event encouraging big hair and neon attire.

Greenfield Main Street’s aim is to inform residents and visitors alike about the events, industry and attractions in the city’s downtown area. Director Heather Condra said autumn is a good time to enjoy the downtown shopping and dining vibe, while having fun at special events.

The Boos and Brews event was a hit back in 2019 and is back by popular demand. For $15, get a lanyard and enjoy food and drink specials from 4-10 p.m. Come back with at least three hole punches on the lanyard for a special prize.

A party will be from 8-10 p.m. on North Street for ages 21 and older, featuring live music by The Flying Toasters. A costume contest for best male, female, couple and group win downtown Greenfield gift certificates.

“I just think it’s a great way to let loose — people just love Halloween, and it’s an opportunity for them to get dressed up,” she said. “It’s a fun way to bring out your inner kid again and have a good time.”

While Boos and Brews is for adults only, GMSI hasnct forgotten the kids. Tricks on Main will be the night before on Oct. 25, with family-friendly booths at merchants along Main Street from 5-7 p.m., and there will be a family-friendly Halloween movie 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts.

But if you can’t wait to get decked out for Halloween, search for some ’80s attire instead. A 1980s-themed murder mystery event is at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Bradley Hall.

The $65 ticket includes dinner and entertainment. Participate as much as you like: volunteers can help solve the murder, or those who are a bit more shy can just watch the fun unfold.

“We would love to see people in all their ’80s garb—neon glow and big hair,” Condra said.

She recommends attendees be at least 16 years old; it’s a great idea for a date night, girls’ night out or simply making adult friends. A similar 1920s-style event was popular in the spring, and this event will offer space for more people to attend.

Any proceeds from the event will go into Greenfield Main Street’s general budget, which promotes downtown Greenfield and building facade grants.

Ticket for events are available now at greenfieldmainstreet.org/events. Downtown dollars offering deals at participating businesses will run from Oct. 1-Dec. 31.
