New Palestine’s volleyball team remained unbeaten on the season and won the Southport Invitational Saturday.

The Dragons went 4-0 in the tournament and are 8-0 on the season.

The Dragons defeated Scecina 2-0 by set scores of 25-21, 25-17.

Natalie Sevier served 14 consecutive points and added 10 digs and three kills. Josie Corbett had 10 kills. Caylee Brown recorded eight and Hayden Ramsey had six.

Sam Gooding had 24 assists, four digs and a block. Azure Flagle had nine digs.

In a 2-0 win over East Central, New Palestine won by set scores of 25-8, 25-14.

Sevier had eight kills and Ramsey totaled five. Corbett had four kills, four digs and two aces. Gooding had 19 assists, three kills and an ace. Flagle had nine digs and two aces.

In a 2-1 victory over host Southport, the Dragons won by set scores of 17-25, 25-20, 15-16.

Corbett had 10 kills and two aces. Ramsey had nine kills. Brown and Sevier had six kills each and Sevier added two aces.

Gooding had 31 assists. Flagle had 20 digs and Kyndra Monteith added 13 digs.

The Dragons defeated Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian 2-0 by set scores of 25-17, 25-12.

Ramsey had 10 kills and three blocks. Flagle had five service aces and six digs.

Cougars win Covenant Christian Invite again

Greenfield-Central, for the second straight year, won the Covenant Christian Volleyball Invitational.

On Saturday, the Cougars defeated Triton Central and East Chicago Central by 2-0 scores. They earned a come-from-behind 2-1 win to defeat Guerin Catholic in the final.

Greenfield-Central is 5-1 overall this season.

Against Triton, G-C won by set scores of 25-4, 25-12. Madison Sonsini had nine kills and Alex Muegge added eight. Rilee Roland had eight digs and Makenna Rankins tallied 23 assists.

Against ECC, the Cougars won 25-3, 25-6. Sonsini and Muegge had six kills each. Muegge had six service aces. Rankins had 17 assists.

Versus Guerin, the Cougars rallied for a 14-25, 25-19, 15-12 victory.

Sonsini had nine kills. Harper Holden had four blocks. Roland had nine digs and Rankins had 18 assists.

Eastern goes 3-1

Eastern Hancock’s girls volleyball team went 3-1 at Saturday’s Shenandoah Invitational.

The Royals are 8-2 overall. They defeated Indiana Math & Sciences Academy North, Cambridge City Lincoln and Shenandoah all by 2-0 scores. They lost 2-0 to Lapel.

Against Indiana Math, the Royals won 25-6, 25-4. Ellie Meyer had 13 service aces and seven assists. Cami Knight had four kills.

Against Lincoln, Eastern won by set scores of 25-13, 25-8. Kaitlyn Lowes had eight kills. Ellie Meyer had five. Hayden Collins contributed five service aces. Knight had five digs. Alana Eastridge totaled five digs and Briar Vancamp had nine assists.

Versus Lapel, the Royals lost 25-17, 25-18. Meyer had seven kills and nine assists. Eastridge recorded nine digs.

In a 25-16, 25-16 win over the host Raiders, Lowes had nine kills, seven digs and five service aces. Knight added seven kills. Eastridge had 14 digs. Meyer had 13 assists and Vancamp had eight assists.

Mt. Vernon finishes 1-2 at WeBo

Mt. Vernon’s girls volleyball team dropped two of three matches at Saturday’s Western Boone Invitational. The Marauders are 4-3 overall.

They lost 2-0 to Western Boone by set scores of 26-24, 25-22, downed Heritage Christian 25-15, 25-15 and lost 2-1 to Hamilton Heights by a count of 19-25, 25-19, 15-12.

Against WeBo, Jaycee Jones had a team-high seven kills. Olivia Johnson was part of six blocks. Avery Delello had 11 digs and Ava Whitmore dished out 16 assists.

In the win over Heritage Christian, Johnson had five kills. Whitmore had 13 assists and three service aces. Aubry Dowling had 13 digs.

Versus Hamilton Heights, Alivia Morgan recorded eight kills. Johnson and Whitmore were part of two blocks each. Dowling had three service aces. Whitmore also had 20 assists and nine digs. Delello had 11 digs.
