Girls cross country roundup: Johnson 4th at Monroe

Eastern Hancock’s Sydney Johnson finished fourth at the Meister Family Memorial Run in Parker City, hosted by Monroe Central, Saturday.

The Royals did not have a full team participate for a team score, but Johnson was fourth of 50 runners entered into the race with a 5K time of 22:44.7.

Eastern’s Kaylee Swan was 15th in 25:14.2.

Randolph Southern’s Haileigh Allen won the race in 21:13.1. Monroe Central won the team event.

G-C second at Richmond

Greenfield-Central sophomore Josie Kinnaman, and the Greenfield-Central girls cross country team both finished second at Saturday’s Hare & Hound Invitational at IU-East in Richmond.

Kinnaman was one of five Cougars to finish in the top 20. Adalyn Cole was fifth, Lexie Copeland placed seventh, Kendall Barrett finished 12th and Taylor Cooksey crossed in 19th place.

East Central won the meet with 24 points. Greenfield-Central scored 44, finishing ahead of Southport (83), Marion (97), Richmond (123), Oldenburg Academy (149) and Connersville (no team score).

New Pal competes in Carmel

New Palestine’s girls cross country team began its season Saturday at the John Cleland Invitational at Northview Christian Church in Carmel.

Junior Abby Journay was the top New Palestine runner with a 4K time of 17:21.7. Sophomore Addison Uhl was 104th in 17:35. Freshman Bri Journay was 118th in 17:45.3, followed by sophomore Taylor Stone (18:10.7) in 138th and freshman Avery Montani (18:24.8) in 152nd.

The Dragons were ninth of 13 teams in juniors/seniors scoring and 11th of 18 teams in combined scoring. There were 332 runners.

Mt. Vernon runs in Hokum Karem

Mt. Vernon’s girls cross country team participated in the Plainfield Hokum Karem Saturday.

Mt. Vernon’s top pair of Makenna Laffey and Emma Gale placed 14th with a combined time of 38:45.18. Each runner runs three miles in the six-mile race.

Ella Sinn and Hannah Hauser placed 24th in 39:45.21. Lily Quinn and Brooklyn Harris finished 31st in 41:16.02.
