HANCOCK COUNTY — Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and Greenfield Police Department have partnered with the Indiana Securities Division to bring a joint initiative against fraud to the community. The educational program is designed to help community members safeguard money from scams and fraud.
The program is within the Indiana Securities Division and focuses on financial literacy and fraud prevention. The program, “Shielding the Community,” partners with local law enforcement around Indiana to bring scam awareness to the citizens.
The topics covered at each event are common scams, red flags of those scams, prevention tips, and reporting information, and the information is distributed through a presentation and a panel discussion/Q&A.
The two upcoming events in Hancock County are from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 28 with the Greenfield Police Department at the Greenfield Public Library’s community room and then from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office at the new sheriff’s office’s training room.
The event is open to the community, but organizers say they are hoping to attract seniors and older adults specifically as they are more vulnerable to these types of scams; however, everyone is welcome. Please can RSVP via email to [email protected].
