Bed race event returns in September

GREENFIELD – The Four Post 400 Bed Race Challenge returns this September.

Race a wheeled bed at the Hancock County Fairgrounds with a group of friends, coworkers or nonprofit organization. Additional prizes are given for best-decorated bed.

The event is a fundraiser for the Dale E. Kuhn American Legion Post 119. It is set for Sept. 14. Vendors open at 11 a.m., a presentation of the nation’s colors, pledge and invocation is at noon; Hometown Heroes will be at 1:15 p.m.; the Parade of Beds is at 12:30 p.m. and races start at 1 p.m. A cornhole tournament for all levels is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The legion is currently seeking sponsors for the event, ranging from $50 to $500. Those who want to participate can join for $75 if using one of the legion’s beds, or $50 by bringing your own bed. Send registration information and fees to American Legion, P.O. Box 96B, Greenfield. Registration should include a team name, members of the team and ages, and parent’s signature if under 18. Fundraiser ride, festival this weekend in Fortville

FORTVILLE – Kammy’s Kause returns to Fortville this weekend.

The 20th annual event is the largest fundraiser in the United States for the 4p-Support Group. The free festival is from 7-11 p.m. Friday along Fortville’s Main Street featuring live music, bounce houses, vendors, food and more. Saturday festivities are noon to 10 p.m. at Landmark Park. Master gardeners to host plant sale

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Master Gardener Association will host a fall plant sale in September.

The event features fall annuals, perennials, live demonstrations, and master gardeners on site to answer questions.

Shrine group to host meal, meeting

GREENFIELD – The next meeting of the Hancock County Shrine Club will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Fraternal Order of Police, 400 E. Davis Road, Greenfield.

Mattress fundraiser to support G-C band

GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central High School’s band and guard program will host its ninth annual mattress fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 24.

The Custom Fundraising Solutions event will be in the band room at Greenfield-Central High School, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield. There will be 30 mattress styles on display for customers to try with name brands. Mattresses are available two to three weeks after the fundraiser; the band and guard program benefits from each purchase.

Car show, fish fry returns to Mt. Comfort Church

GREENFIELD – The eighth annual Car Show and Fish Fry returns to Mt. Comfort Church Sept. 14.

The car show is noon to 3p.m. with registration at $20 per car (non-judged registration is $5 per car). The meal is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at $12 per meal for pre-orders. The meal includes hand-battered cod, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, dessert and drink. Day of the event price is $14. Register and pre-order at mtcomfortchurch.com.
