In a three-team match at Smock Golf Course Tuesday, New Palestine defeated host school Franklin Central and Hancock County rival Greenfield-Central.
The Dragons, in their first nine-hole match of the season, scored a 167. Franklin Central shot 188 and Greenfield-Central finished with a 225.
New Palestine was led by Lauren Deering with a 39. Katie Kelley was one stroke behind the match medalist with a 40. Lily Kirchner finished with a 42 and Janie Hamilton followed with a 46.
In their third nine-hole match of the season, G-C’s 225 was the low round of the year.
On Thursday, New Palestine plays its first home match, at The Links, against Noblesville. Greenfield-Central plays Connersville Thursday.
Both New Palestine and Greenfield-Central are scheduled to play in the 18-hole Lapel Invitational Saturday at Edgewood Golf Course, which is also the location for the regional tournament in September.
Marauders defeat Beech Grove, LC
Mt. Vernon’s girls golf team picked up two wins Tuesday, defeating Beech Grove and Lawrence Central.
The Marauders shot a 185 and were led by Izzy VanHeel with a nine-hole score of 41. Natalie Miner finished with a 45.
Mt. Vernon travels to Royal Hylands Thursday to take on Eastern Hancock.
The Marauders will join county rivals New Palestine and Greenfield-Central Saturday in the 18-hole Lapel Invitational at Edgewood Golf Course.
Royals golfers compete
Eastern Hancock finished third of three teams Monday, and second of three teams — and just five strokes back — Tuesday in a pair of girls golf matches.
The Royals shot a 236 at Liberty Country Club Monday. Host Union County shot a 179. Monroe Central finished with a 213.
On Tuesday on the home course at Royal Hylands, Union Modoc won a tightly contested match with a team score of 229. Eastern Hancock was second with 234. North Decatur shot 236.
Eastern Hancock hosts Mt. Vernon Thursday.
