Pool party for dogs this August

GREENFIELD – The annual pool party for dogs and their humans returns this August.

Partners in Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S. Hancock) hosts the event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Kathy Dowling Aquatic Center, the community pool in Riley Park. Cost is $20 per human and one dog, and $3 extra per human or dog for a maximum of $30. Pay at the door, cash or credit is accepted.

Proof of vaccinations are required before entry: rabies, Bordetella and distemper vaccines must be proven. The event is a fundraiser for P.A.W.S. Hancock; for more visit pawshancock.org or facebook.com/PAWSHancock.

P.A.W.S. will also host a pet adoption event from10:30 am. to 2 p.m. Aug. 10 at Tractor Supply Co., 1645 N. State St., Greenfield. For more, call the store at 317-468-0980.

Benefit golf outing in memory of Brynnley

GREENFIELD – Brynnley’s Battle Golf Outing is coming up this month, benefiting the Live Like B Foundation.

The event is at 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at Arrowhead Golf Course, 3974 Club House Drive, Greenfield. Registration is open now through Aug. 10. Sponsorships are also available.

Brynnley, age 6, died in 2021 having had a rare, inoperable cancerous brain tumor. The LiveLikeB Foundation was established in January 2022 by her parents Scott and Kristyn Niederhaus in honor of Brynnley to spread awareness for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma and childhood cancer. Cancer and cancer treatments can put patients at risk for low blood cell and platelet counts; blood and platelet transfusions can enable patients to receive critical treatments needed to fight and survive cancer.

Libraries to host family programs in August

GREENFIELD – Programs for teens and children are coming up at local libraries throughout Hancock County this month.

Teens in grades 6-12 can learn basic codes of robots in an event Aug. 12 at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. A teen and tween chess club is Aug. 15 at the Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL, 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine. Bentley’s Buddies and Friends will be at both HCPL libraries Aug. 18.

KidsPlay auditions this month

GREENFIELD – Auditions for the fall production of KidsPlay Inc. Is coming up.

“The True Story of Hey Diddle Diddle” will be performed on stage Nov. 15-17.

Auditions for returning KidsPlay actors are 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 20. New auditioners are asked to come from 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Auditions will be in “the Dungeon,” 98 E. North St., Greenfield. Sister Cities 5K event coming up

GREENFIELD – The 11th annual Sister Cities 5K Run/Walk is coming up.

The event is at 9 a.m. Aug. 17 and begins at the Sister Cities Park on the Pennsy Trail, next to the Greenfield Police Department. The course follows the trail, heading west before turning around and returning to the park.

Registration is $30.

Sister Cities of Greenfield relies on fundraising from the community to help provide opportunities for local students to visit Kakuda, Japan.
