GREENFIELD — Officials, teachers and students with several Greenfield-Central schools were placed on lockdown on lockdown for about 20 minutes Tuesday afternoon. The lockdown came as a result of an “abundance of caution” officials said as the Greenfield Police Department (GPD) worked a nearby possible suicidal incident.

Officials with the GPD asked to place Harris Elementary School, Greenfield Intermediate School, and Greenfield-Central High School on a secure external lockdown due to a safety concern north and east of those schools.

Officials say no threats were made toward the schools but the lockdown was done out of an “abundance of caution.” Officials noted dismissal occurred at regular time as all the lockdowns were lifted.

Officials from the GPD noted they received a call about a suicidal person who resides in the area and when no one would answer the door officials locked down the area until they could confirm the person was not in the area.
