Marauders sixth at HSE Invite

NOBLESVILLE — In a field full of state-ranked teams, Mt. Vernon’s girls golfers finished sixth of 11 squads in the Hamilton Southeastern Invitational at StonyCreek Golf Club Tuesday.

No. 2 Westfield, No. 6 Hamilton Southeastern and No. 8 Carmel fielded seven of the 11 teams and took the top five spots.

Mt. Vernon, led by Izzy VanHeel’s 83, shot a 368. Marissa Miner and Natalie Miner finished with a 92 and 93, respectively. Both Kylie Hyde and Gigi Avers finished with 100s.

VanHeel’s round was good for a tie for 10th in the individual standings. Carmel’s Maddie Headlee won with a 73.

Carmel Blue won the tournament with a score of 308. HSE Blue was second with 312 and Westfield Green finished with a 341. HSE’s second team, White, shot a 344. Westfield’s No. 2 team, White, finished just two strokes ahead of the Marauders with a 366.

Fishers Red was seventh with a 374, followed by Carmel Gold 380, HSE Red 384, Guerin Catholic 406 and Fishers White 433.

It was the second of three 18-hole rounds in as many days for the Marauders.

The Mt. Vernon JV team shot 412 Monday and finished sixth of eight teams at the Pendleton Preview.

The Marauders will play in the 18-hole Tipton Invitational this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The tournament is taking place at Tipton Municipal Golf Course.
