Hancock Flat 50 returns Aug. 24

GREENFIELD – The Hancock Flat 50 is coming up Aug. 24 and registration is open now.

The annual event featuring a bicycle ride and festival with music, food and drinks has been happening every August since 2016. Participants have increased from 150 cyclists the inaugural year to more than 750 in 2023. The chip-timed event is for experienced riders or a more leisurely ride with friends; a 25-mile route is also available. Cost is $50; proceeds help support the local trails systems and other biking initiatives throughout Hancock County. Learn more and register at hancockflat50.com.

Volunteer fair coming to Thrive Center

GREENFIELD – A volunteer fair is coming up in September at the Community Foundation of Hancock County.

The event will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Thrive Center, 941 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield. Nonprofit organizations will have table space and members of the community are invited to walk around tables and learn about how to help local organizations. Science program open house Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS – Learn about the Fort Ben Composite Squadron in an open house event this Wednesday, Aug. 7.

The program provides aerospace, STEM emergency services, communications training, leadership and more to ages 12 and up to Hancock and Hamilton counties. The event is at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Indianapolis Regional Airport, 3867 N. Aviation Way, Greenfield in the blue T-hangars. Tire recycle event Aug. 10

GREENFIELD – Recycle tires at a free upcoming event, hosted by Recycle Hancock County.

The tire disposal event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at Riley Park Tire, 801 E. Main St., Greenfield.

Bring a maximum of 12 tires. Passenger/light truck and smaller tires are only accepted on or off the rim. No commercial agricultural or farm tires are permitted.
