Reading dogs, programs coming to libraries

HANCOCK COUNTY – Programs for children of all ages are coming to local libraries across Hancock County.

A drum circle for both children and adults is at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. Science Squad for children ages 8-12 is set for 4:30 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL in New Palestine. Both HCPL libraries are hosting Bentley’s Buddies and Friends reading dogs Aug. 18. Visit hcplibrary.org for details or to sign up for events.

Bentley’s Buddies and Friends will be at the Vernon Township Public Library in Fortville Aug. 17. The VTPL also hosts story times Wednesday mornings throughout the month. Visit vtpl.lib.in.us for details.

Programs for teens and “tweens” include robots for grades 6-12 Aug. 12 and a creative writing club for ages 12-17 Aug. 19 at the HCPL in Greenfield. New Palestine teen events include Teen Storymakers for ages 12-17 on Aug. 27; and a paper crafting recycled creations program for ages 9-18 on Aug. 27.

Golf fundraiser set for MVEF

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation is planning a golf fundraiser.

Chip In Fore Kids is 5-8 p.m. Sept. 12 at TopGolf in Fishers. The event includes drinks, food and golfing games while raising funds for grants, programs and resources for students and teachers. Sponsorships are available and registration is open. Email [email protected] or visit onecau.se/mvgolf.

Golf tournament to benefit EH foundation

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Registration is open for a golf tournament benefiting the Eastern Hancock Education Foundation.

The event is at 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Royal Hylands Golf Club, 7629 S. Greensboro Pike, Knightstown. Entry is $400 per four-person team. Register by following the link, found at facebook.com/EasternHancockEdFd or by emailing [email protected].

KidsPlay auditions coming up

GREENFIELD – Auditions for the fall production of KidsPlay Inc. Is coming up.

“The True Story of Hey Diddle Diddle” will be performed on stage Nov. 15-17.

Auditions for returning KidsPlay actors are 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 20. New auditioners are asked to come from 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Auditions will be in “the Dungeon,” 98 E. North St., Greenfield. Deiter graduates from Millikin University

FORTVILLE – Rhys Deiter of Fortville recently graduated summa cum laude with a bachelors of art degree in political science from Millikin University.

He was among 270 graduates recognized during the 2024 spring commencement ceremonies in Decatur, Ill. May 19.
