Hancock Flat 50 returns Aug. 24

GREENFIELD – The Hancock Flat 50 is coming up Aug. 24 and registration is open now.

The annual event featuring a bicycle ride and festival with music, food and drinks has been happening every August since 2016. Participants have increased from 150 cyclists the inaugural year to more than 750 in 2023. The chip-timed event is for experienced riders or a more leisurely ride with friends; a 25-mile route is also available. Cost is $50; proceeds help support the local trails systems and other biking initiatives throughout Hancock County. Learn more and register at hancockflat50.com.

Golf outing to benefit Love INC

GREENFIELD – Love INC of Greater Hancock County will benefit from a golf outing fundraiser Sept. 20.

Axis Worship Center is hosting the event and 100% of all net proceeds support Love In the Name of Christ of Greater Hancock County.

The event begins at 11 a.m. with check-in at 10 a.m. at Arrowhead Golf Course, 374 Clubhouse Drive, Greenfield.

Event for new G-C principal Monday

GREENFIELD – A meet and greet reception for new Greenfield-Central High School Principal Dan Walbaum is coming up.

The reception will be from 4:30-6 p.m. Monday at G-CHS, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield. The community is welcome to join in the event. The first day of school for G-C students is Wednesday.

WIC to host breastfeeding event

GREENFIELD – Hancock County WIC will host a World Breastfeeding Week event in August.

MPD to host Community Day event

MCCORDSVILLE – Join the McCordsville Police Department in its sixth annual Community Day this week.

Community Day is from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 2 at McCordsville Town Hall, 6280 W. 800N., McCordsville. Free hot dogs and popcorn will be on site, along with a chance to check out new police cars. Fire trucks will be available, along with Kona Ice, Libby’s Ice Cream, a game truck and bounce house.

“Disasterville” coming to local meeting

GREENFIELD – Prepare for the worst with an interactive activity called “Disasterville.”

The training, skills refresher and educational tool will be at the Aug. 1 meeting of the Hancock County COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disasters). The community is welcome, as well as local officials, professional responders and emergency managers.

Disasterville is a table-top, game-like activity simulating a town set up with small buildings and figurines. The toolkit has markers to set up a disaster scene, including infrastructure damages, structure damages and victim conditions.
