School registration open now

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local public schools are hosting registration dates and welcoming events for the new 2024-2025 school year.

The first day of class for Greenfield-Central students is July 31; online registration began July 18.

Returning students should use PowerSchool to register. Parents should fill out a heath condition update, address change request and contact information. Insurance for iPads can be paid at registration or at school offices with cash, check or credit card; EZ School Pay can also be used.

Each school’s website lists dates for open houses and other events. Visit the corporation website at gcsc.k12.in.us for more information or links to individual school websites.

Eastern Hancock’s school year also starts July 31, and online registration began July 17.

Skyward Family Access should be used for returning families.

Elementary and preschool Meet the Teacher Night is July 30, while a kindergarten open house is July 29. Supply lists and more information can be found at easternhancock.org.

New Palestine Community Schools (formerly known as Southern Hancock) has several open houses and events coming up prior to the first day of school Aug. 1.New Palestine Intermediate School has Locker Days July 22-25, with several welcome events for various grade levels July 31-Aug 13. Locker Days at New Palestine Junior High School is July 24 and July 25; a seventh grade cook-out is July 30.

New Palestine High School will host a Fresh Start event from 9-11 am. July 30 for freshmen and new students. The event includes a building tour, club fair and more.

The first day of school for Mt. Vernon students is Aug. 8.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit Skyward Family Access and register all returning students by the end of July.

School supply lists can be found under the “Parents” drop-down menu on each school’s webpage.

Mt. Vernon High School will host an orientation event for freshmen and new students Aug. 1. Open houses for all students will be Aug. 6.

Back-to-School nights for Mt. Vernon Middle School students are Aug. 5-6. Fortville, Mt. Comfort and McCordsville elementary schools will host open houses Aug. 6. All new students need to complete an application online.

Local school supply giveaways coming up

GREENFIELD – Several community groups are offering free school supplies for local families.

A backpack and school supply giveaway returns to Riley Park from 6-7:30 p.m. July 24. The event is hosted by Hancock4kids and also includes games and activities.

Back to School Celebration is coming up at 12:30 p.m. July 28 at Mt. Comfort Church, 3179 N. 600 W., Greenfield. Join in for free school supplies, yard games, ice cream, lunch and bounce houses.

Hogue earns degree from Miami U

GREENFIELD – Haley Hogue of Greenfield recently graduated from Miami University.

The degree was awarded during the spring commencement of the 2024 school year. Miami University is a public establishment located in Oxford, Ohio.

Golf fundraiser set for MVEF

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation is planning a golf fundraiser.

Chip In Fore Kids is 5-8 p.m. Sept. 12 at TopGolf in Fishers. The event includes drinks, food and golfing games while raising funds for grants, programs and resources for students and teachers. Sponsorships are available and registration is open. Email [email protected] or visit onecau.se/mvgolf.
