GREENFIELD
Vennis F. (Vince) Campbell Jr., age 92, passed away on July 12, 2024. He was born on August 14, 1931, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN, to Vennis F. and Myrtle M. (Andis) Campbell. He married the love of his life, Linda L. (Crump) Yenowine, on June 13, 1970. Their love was a testament to the enduring power of marriage, as they were married for over 47 years until her passing. He never left her side and has kept her in his heart since.
He was a lifelong resident of Greenfield and graduated from the Old Greenfield High School in 1950.
He served his country and community with distinction. He served in the Naval Reserve and United States Air Force during the Korean War Era, serving above the Arctic Circle in Greenland. He worked for several years for the Indiana State Highway and Department of Natural Resources. Later, he was employed by the United States Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier, retiring in 1995, with over 20 years of dedicated service.
He was a dedicated member of various organizations. His memberships included the American Legion Post 119 in Greenfield, where he served as Post Commander in 1966; Forty and Eight Voiture Locale 1415; Clan Campbell Society; National Rural Letter Carrier Association; Air Force Association; Hancock County Historical Society; National Association Retired Federal Employees; and Former Charter Member of State Capital Optimist.
Vennis is survived by his brother, Robert D. Campbell, Greenfield; son, Robert W. “Bobby” (Amy) Campbell, Greenfield; and daughters, Ginger S. Garcia and Elizabeth A. (Tom) Neu, both of Indianapolis; 3 nephews and 1 niece; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda L. Campbell; sister, Patricia A. Wright; son, David W. Campbell; son, James A. Campbell; son, Jeffrey N. Yenowine; daughter, Leanne Woods; daughter, Lori Dethridge; granddaughter, Shanda Rachelle Swindle; and grandson, James S. Dethridge.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A private graveside service will take place following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at Park Cemetery in Greenfield with Pastor Roger Kinion officiating.
