FORTVILLE – Thousands of people are expected to descend on the relatively small town of Fortville this Saturday for the annual Summerfest extravaganza at Landmark Park.

The event will start at 11 a.m. and will run all the way until the last of the fireworks light up the sky around 10:30 p.m.

The annual festival will feature a wide variety of food, kids’ activities and musical acts throughout the day.

“This is a family friendly event for all ages,” said Natalie Tucker, event coordinator for the Town of Fortville.

“Last year we saw over 10,000 people in foot traffic throughout the day,” said Tucker, who anticipates similar or even larger crowds this year.

That’s quite a feat for the relatively small town of Fortville, which tallied under 5,000 residents at the last census.

Visitors can expect to see roughly 120 food and vendor booths, which includes a handful of organizations promoting causes throughout the community such as Shawn Strong, Kammy’s Kause and Rock Steady Boxing.

“We have unique vendors coming from all over Indiana,” said Tucker,

Food options cover the gamut of summer favorites like barbecue, ribs, hot dogs, tenderloin, burgers and ice cream, while a beer garden will serve feature two local businesses – Moondrops Distillery and Taxman Brewing.

The festival’s popular Kids Zone will feature a few new additions this year, including mini golf, face painting, a balloon game truck and a playground for little ones, the latter of which is provided by Gateway Church.

In addition to the church, Tucker gave a special shout out to this year’s event sponsors: Fortville Tires, Ben Eades State Farm, GBC Banking, Ryan Homes, NineStar Connect, Custom Exterior, Fortville Parks and the Town of Fortville.

Fortville’s Summerfest is typically held the weekend after the Fourth of July, but had to be bumped back a week this year due to fireworks scheduling.

“Next year, we hope to bring it back to the Saturday after the Fourth,” said Tucker.

Summerfest takes place in Landmark Park, at 201 E Staat St. in Fortville.
