GREENFIELD – The return to school is just around the corner for Hancock County students, and local groups are stepping up with freebies for families.

Here’s a roundup of local events and giveaways for Hancock County’s children.

-A Back to School Block Party is coming up from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, July 13 at Greenfield-Central High School, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield.

The event is hosted by Realife Church and features free groceries, school supplies, haircuts, children’s shoes, family photos and lunch. A Kids Zone is available for play.

The event is free and open to all residents of Hancock County. To learn more, email [email protected].

-Hancock County Community Night is from 5-8 pm. July 17 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. The eighth annual summertime event features family-friendly educational booths with public safety officers, firefighters, nonprofit organizations and more. Public safety demonstrations, produce giveaways, car seat safety checks, bounce houses and food will be featured, as well as a backpack giveaway.

– Changing Footprints will host its Back To School Shoe Giveaway in downtown Greenfield.

The giveaway featuring free shoes of all sizes is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both July 19 and 20 at Greenfield Christian Church, 23 N. East St., Greenfield. For more information and updates, visit facebook.com/changingfootprintshancock.

-Backpack Bash is from 1-3 p.m. July 20 at Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 1202 E. Fifth St., Greenfield. Students from kindergarten through college are encouraged to stop by and get a backpack and school supplies, as well as a hot dog or snow cone.

-Pates Place in Greenfield will host a back-to-school Block Party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 21.

The salon will offer free haircuts for children, as well as free bounce houses and food at 125 Howard St., Greenfield.

– A backpack and school supply giveaway returns to Riley Park from 6-7:30 p.m. July 24. The event is hosted by Hancock4kids and also includes games and activities.

-Back to School Celebration is coming up at 12:30 p.m. July 28 at Mt. Comfort Church, 3179 N. 600 W., Greenfield.
