GREENFIELD – Join the patriotic vibe in local fireworks displays coming up in Hancock County communities.

Greenfield and Shirley will host fireworks displays July 4 while Fortville’s display will be July 13 at the conclusion of Summerfest. The communities of New Palestine and Cumberland have already launched fireworks displays at music festivals in June.

Here’s a look at what to expect this week and next:

“Greenfield has been really good to us, and I think it’s just something we can do to say thank you,” said Nick Dellen, president and owner of the dealership. “It’s one of my favorite holidays. It’s fun and it’s just a great time to celebrate, enjoy summer and enjoy friends and family.

Public safety officials with the Greenfield Fire Territory inspect the site prior to the event and stand by for safety the night of the display. Circle City Pyrotechnics launch the professional fireworks.

GFT Fire Marshal Steven Kropacek encourages people to park along the south drive of the school; the north drive and parking area is blocked off due to safety and the fallout of the fireworks. People are encouraged to simply bring a lawn chair and perhaps some bug spray but keep their own fireworks or sparklers at home for the safety of the community.

The fireworks can be viewed from many nearby parking lots and neighborhoods as well.

-Shirley Park will host a Fourth of July celebration Thursday in the community that straddles the Hancock/Henry county lines.

Concessions open at 6 p.m. and fireworks begin roughly at 10 pm. Bring a lawn chair; parking is restricted in the area. Personal fireworks are prohibited.

Shirley Visionaries are taking donations for the display in donation cans located at Shirley Town Hall and the gas station.

-Fortville Summerfest is from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 13 in Landmark Park in Fortville. Visit an all-day kids zone with bounce houses and face painters; more than 75 vendors and food sites; and fireworks at dusk. Live music starts at 2 p.m. Visit facebok.com/townoffortvilleparks for updates and more information.
