County players, teams pick up IHSTECA honors

Hancock County individuals and teams, for both athletic and academic performances, were recently recognized by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association.

The IHSTECA acknowledged girls tennis players for all-state and all-district performances on the courts along with academic all-state honors, both individually and as teams.

The Mt. Vernon No. 1 doubles team of Kylie Brandes and Ava Lusby earned second team all-state honors. The pair of Marauder standouts finished the season 22-1, with the only loss coming in the regional round of the state tournament.

Mt. Vernon singles players Caroline Allen (No. 1 singles) and Ginni Morelli (No. 2 singles) were selected all-state honorable mention for singles along with Greenfield-Central’s Katie Gilkison (No. 1 singles) and New Palestine’s Kaitlyn Mitchell (No. 1 singles).

The Greenfield-Central doubles team of Madison Succaw and Lauren Haffner picked up all-state honorable mention acknowledgment for doubles.

Succaw and Haffner were individual (doubles) sectional champions.

All of the county players selected all-state and all-state honorable mention were also chosen for the All-District 4 team. Mt. Vernon head coach Gabe Muterspaugh was named the District 4 Coach of the Year.

On the academic side, Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon and New Palestine were among the programs selected team Academic All-State.

Individually, the G-C pair of Succaw and Haffner also earned all-state academic honors along with New Palestine’s Amelia Schneider.
