Birding group events open in July

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Birders are hosting community bird watching events at local parks in June.

The group, in collaboration with Greenfield Parks and Recreation and the National Audubon Society, will host events to gather and view birds at 8 a.m. July 13 at Thornwood Nature Preserve and 8 a.m. July 27 at Beckenholdt Park. There will be two events to view birds each month now through October at Beckenholdt and Brandywine parks, and Thornwood Nature Preserve. Town seeks donations for “mascot” cat

MCCORDSVILLE – Oscar the cat, the town mascot for McCordsville, could use donations from the local community to pay for care and medical bills.

While Oscar is looked after by all town employees, his care is funded entirely by donations from staff and the public. The town’s newsletter recently stated that as Oscar ages, he has health issues that can be costly. A donation box is located inside of town hall; cash and check donations are accepted. Checks can be made out to “Town of McCordsville,” Attn.: Oscar.

Police dog fundraiser coming up

NEW PALESTINE – A golf outing benefiting the New Palestine K9 Fund is coming up.

The New Palestine K9 Golf Outing is at 9 a.m. July 11 at The Links Golf Club, 11425 N. PR Links Lane, New Palestine. Cost is $75 per golfer or $300 per team and includes lunch, 18 holes of golf, and a chance for raffle prizes and door prizes. Sponsorships are available.

The K9 Fund is operated from donation and seizure money alone and covers dog food, vet bills, equipment, continued training and more. For information, email [email protected] or call 317-861-4225. Checks can be made payable to the Town of New Palestine, with K9 Donation Fund in the memo.

Teen programs coming to local libraries

HANCOCK COUNTY – Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to local libraries this month for activities and events.

Teen Games will be at 3:45 p.m. July 8 at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. Classic tabletop games will be available as well as Wii games on a big projector. Mario Kart tournaments are Thursdays, and STEAM challenges continue through July 8. Tween and teen yoga is July 3 and 17 at the HCPL in Greenfield, and July 10 at 24 at the Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL in New Palestine. Visit hcplibrary.org to sign up or get details.

In Fortville, tweens and teens are invited to Solar Quest— baking s’mores in a solar oven. The event is at 2 p.m. July 19 at the Vernon Township Public Library. A mini golf course will be set up for teens at an event 5 p.m. July 25. Visit vtpl.lib.in.us for details.
