Scholar honors: MV school board honors students with high academic achievement

Winners of elementary academic spell bowls and math competitions were inducted into the Mt. Vernon Wall of Fame recently.

FORTVILLE – Several local students were honored for academics at the recent meeting of the Mt. Vernon school board.

The 2024 School Board Scholars and Wall of Fame inductees were celebrated at the June 17 meeting with cookies and punch reception for families to enjoy.

This is the 41st year of honoring students through the School Board Scholars and Academic Wall of Fame programs. School Board Scholars are for students who earn an A or an A+ in every class during the duration of the school year. The Wall of Fame honors students who won special academic competitions.

Fortville Elementary School Wall of Fame inductees were Paige Simmons, spelling bee champion; Evelyn Keljo, addition t-race champion; and Paige Simmons, multiplication t-race champion.

Mt. Comfort Elementary honorees were Violet Perry, spelling bee champion; Moira Cutshaw, addition t-race champion; and Charlotte Smitherman, multiplication t-race champion.

McCordsville Elementary Wall of Fame inductees were Nixon Childress, spelling bee champion, Pete Cortes, addition t-race champion; and Adriana Gomez-Bossio, multiplication t-race champion.

Mt. Vernon Middle School Wall of Fame inductees were Ashlynn Stone, spelling bee winner; and Zeke Douglas, geography bee winner.

Mt. Vernon High School Wall of Fame honorees included Seth Woolston, salutatorian; and Cameron Sullivan, valedictorian.

The following students were honored for being a School Board Scholar five years or more: Daniel Barnes, five years; Annelise Hiner, eight years; Seth Woolston, five years; Kristen Beaty, six years; Tatum Mastin, six years; Elise Gawrys, seven years; and Katlin Wallpe, six years.
