Going undefeated in conference play and losing only one match in seven league contests, Mt. Vernon dominated selections for the All-Hoosier Heritage Conference girls tennis team.

Mt. Vernon went undefeated in conference play, 7-0, and won the league title for the first time since 2009. Six of the seven victories were by 5-0 scores, only Delta (4-1) was able to win a match against the Marauders.

The conference coaches selected six singles players and four doubles combos to make up the All-HHC team.

Mt. Vernon head coach Gabe Muterspaugh was named coach of the year.

Sophomore Caroline Allen, the Marauders No. 1 singles player, and Italian exchange student Ginni Morelli, the No. 2 singles player, were selected along with both Mt. Vernon doubles teams.

The No. 1 doubles group of junior Kylie Brandes and senior Ava Lusby lost only one match the entire season. The No. 2 doubles senior tandem of Addison Lockwood and Sophia Maxwell were also chosen for all-league honors.

The six players from Mt. Vernon were not the only Hancock County players to earn spots on the team.

New Palestine junior Kaitlyn Mitchell joined Allen and Morelli on the singles group.

Greenfield-Central’s Madi Succaw and Lauren Haffner were selected for doubles. Succaw and Haffner, along with doing well in conference matches, were the individual sectional doubles champions.

Mt. Vernon won the team sectional title and reached the regional championship before losing to eventual state runner-up Fishers.

In all, Hancock County players made up nine of the 14 All-HHC spots.

Delta senior Gabby Knight and junior Brylee Beckley were named to the singles roster along with New Castle senior Morley Blessinger.

Along with the three Hancock County doubles teams, Delta’s pair of junior Kelsey Vest and sophomore Katie Manor were selected.

Delta was runner-up to Mt. Vernon in conference play with a 6-1 record. New Palestine placed third at 5-2.
