GREENFIELD – Hancock County almost double the amount of building permits for new homes in May 2024 than it did in May 2023.

According to a press release from the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis, there were 89 building permits in Hancock County in May 2024 compared to 47 in May 2023.

Regionally, Indiana’s new construction market started off the year with tremendous growth of 77% compared to the previous year across the nine-county central Indiana region. By May, there was only 11% growth with 837 single-family home permits issued in May 2024 compared to 752 issued in May 2023.

Hancock County’s growth in May was the second-highest in the region, followed by Madison County.
