Early morning crash on U.S. 52 claims life

Officials from the IMPD are investigating a fatal crash just outside of the county line on U.S. 52 Wednesday morning in the 2600 block of S Carroll Road.

HANCOCK COUNTY — Officials from the Hancock County 911 Center reported a fatal crash that happened around 6:36 a.m. Wednesday in the southern part of Hancock County on U.S. 52 and CR South 800W (S. Carroll Road).

Multiple Hancock County and Marion County first responders worked the scene, including officials from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and New Palestine Police Department. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) took jurisdiction of the crash due to the accident being just inside the Marion County line.

Officials from the IMPD tell the Daily Reporter the crash did result in a fatality, but they are not releasing any other information at this time. There was also damage to the traffic lights in the 2600 block of S Carroll Road. Officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation say they have a crew en route to inspect and repair any damage. The intersection may be closed for an extended period of time.

Officials from the New Palestine Police Department tell the Daily Reporter they helped direct traffic around the accident, but due to the fact it was just inside the Marion County line, officials from IMPD fatal crash team took over the investigation and will release more details when available.
