McCordsville community party Saturday

MCCORDSVILLE – The second annual Party in the Park happens from 6-9 p.m. this Saturday in McCordsville.

Local businesses, organizations and neighbors join together at Town Hall Park at 6280 W. 800N., McCordsville. Pixy Tea Party returns to Riley home

GREENFIELD – The Pixy Tea Party returns to the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home this weekend.

The event in which children can meet “fairies” and hear about pixies in poetry by Riley is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at 250 W. Main St., Greenfield. Cost is $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 3-15. Register at parks.greenfieldin.org.

Live music available this week

GREENFIELD – Several concerts are available this week in Greenfield.

The Hancock County 4-H Fair features a free performance of the Eastern Wing Band at 6 p.m. Wednesday; and Willow Branch at 6 p.m. Thursday. Concerts with a cover charge at the fair include Stella Luna and the Satellites at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday; and Walker County with opening act Craig Moore at 6 p.m. Friday. The fair is located at 620 Apple St., Greenfield.

Free at Depot Street Park this weekend is Turn to Stone (ELO tribute band) with opening act Christian Terry starting at 6 p.m. Friday. The outdoor venue is at 251 Depot St., Greenfield.

Children’s theater performance this weekend

GREENFIELD – Check out the theatrical, musical and stage production work of dozens of Hancock County children in “Wagon Wheels West” this week.

Hancock County Children’s Theater, an annual month-long summer program that teaches theater production, will present its show at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Greenfield-Central High School, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield. Tickets are $7; call 317-462-6222 to purchase tickets in advance.

Chili cookoff fundraiser set

GREENFIELD – A chili cookoff Saturday will benefit a nonprofit for victims of domestic violence.

Shelter from the Storm Inc. Will host a Chili Cook Off fundraiser at 5 p.m. this Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, 515 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield. Tickets range from $1 to $41, based on age and level of participation; a professional entry fee option is also included. Learn more at sftsinc.com.

Musical coming to downtown venue

GREENFIELD – The CrazyLake Acting Company will present “The 25th Annual County Spelling Bee” July 12-21 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts.

The musical features a fictional competition between six quirky middle school students who sing about their home lives, their hopes and dreams and their fears in between rounds of the spelling bee. The cast is rounded out by school personnel and members of the spellers’ families

Performance dates are July 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7 p.m.; Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Tickets are available for $10 at Hometown Comics, $12 online at crazylakeacting.com or $15 at the door before the show. The Ricks is located at 122 W. Main St., Greenfield.
