GREENFIELD – The Greenfield City Council found two businesses to be out of compliance with tax abatement agreements at the June 12 council meeting.

The council shared that neither Daneli Corp. nor BWI North America and BWI Indiana had filed the required annual report by their respective deadlines.

“Those found not in compliance will be sent a letter and will have to come to a future council meeting to make an explanation as to why,” said council member Anthony Scott.

“If they don’t do that, the abatement is revoked and they will end up paying the taxes,” he said.

Companies granted tax abatements by the city are given a reduction in property taxes in exchange for meeting certain guidelines to boost local economic development.

“To get an abatement, they made economic development promises. They said they’re going to create a certain number of jobs or their salary levels are going to be maintained at certain levels,” said Scott.

“If they’re not doing that, they’re not meeting those economic development goals and will end up paying those taxes,” he said.

A number of companies were found to be in compliance with their abatements, including Avery Dennison, Elanco, Greenfield Solar Park, Hitachi, Indiana Automotive Fasteners, Indiana Municipal Power Agency, Photon and Yamaha.

The council noted that Bastian Solutions and Bastian Automation Engineering was found to have had delinquent taxes in 2023 and 2024.

The council also shared that public budget hearings for next year’s budget will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 27, with an extra session scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 28 if necessary.

Those hearings will take place in the Richard J. Pasco council chambers at Greenfield City Hall, at 10 S. State St.
