Jon Roy Smith left this life on June 1, 2024. He died at his home, in Greenfield, Indiana, in the house on the lake he had occupied with his late wife, Joellen ‘Jody’ Smith, for 30 years. He was born on September 24, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Roy and Helen (Schenck) Smith. The middle child of three sons, Jon was a soft-spoken gentleman, son, brother, veteran, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend.

After many years of faithful attendance at St. Michael Catholic Church, he took his first holy communion a few weeks before his death, surrounded by the close group of friends he had attended mass with for 50 years. He worked in maintenance for Eli Lilly and Company until his retirement. He was a talented woodsmith, avid photographer, and coin collector, with an impressive cowboy boot collection and a love of the West and the eagles of Greenfield.

He is survived by his two sons, Jon J. Smith and Joseph R. Tondro-Smith; son-in-law, Christian Sidwell; daughter-in-law, Dondi Tondro-Smith; two siblings, Ron Smith (Sally), and Denny Smith (Judith); his only grandchild, River (Kaia) Tondro-Smith; cousins; nieces; nephews; great nieces; and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 519 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield, Indiana, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, 435 West Troy Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana.
