New Pal’s Blum nominated for Miss Softball honors

New Palestine senior shortstop Allie Blum has been named a nominee for the Softball Coaches Association of Indiana Miss Softball award.

The association announced, earlier this week, Miss Softball nominees, all-state selections and players chosen to play in the North-South All-Star game.

Blum is the nominee from District 4. Other nominees are Riley Zache of South Bend St. Joseph (District 1), Keirys Click of Hobart (District 2), Audrey Lowry of Tri-West (District 3) and Jenna Donohoo of Tecumseh (District 5).

Blum and Eastern Hancock’s Brooklyn Willis were selected to play for the South squad in the North-South All-Star Game.

A practice and banquet for the players will take place on June 21. The all-star doubleheader is June 22 at Indiana University. In between games the association will announce the winner of Miss Softball.

Blum was named first team all-state for Class 3A/4A. Willis and teammate Sammie Bolding were selected first team for Class 1A/2A.

Blum is hitting .556 with a state-best 19 home runs. She has 13 doubles, four triples, 49 RBI and has scored 58 runs.

Willis, a center fielder, is right behind Blum in homers. She has hit 17 and driven in 48. She is hitting .563 with 10 doubles, two triples and 46 runs scored. Bolding, a shortstop, has 10 home runs, is hitting .462 with 28 RBI. Bolding has scored 45 runs and has seven doubles and two triples.

New Palestine third baseman Paige Ernstes and Mt. Vernon infielder Shelby Rakosky were second-team selections.

Ernstes, another power hitter, has 11 home runs and is hitting .413. She has eight doubles, a triple, 56 RBI and 32 runs scored. Rakosky hit .549 with nine doubles, three triples, two homers and 20 RBI. She scored 30 times.

Dragon outfielder Sydney Oliver was a third-team choice. She is hitting .489 with 10 doubles, five triples, 35 RBI and 33 runs scored.

The Dragons and Royals are still playing in the postseason. Both teams were scheduled to play in semi-state tournaments Saturday.
