Landon Brooks struck out seven and gave up just one hit in leading Greenfield-Central to a 5-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference baseball victory over visiting Shelbyville Tuesday.
Brooks walked three.
The game was scoreless after four innings. Greenfield-Central scored one in the fifth and four in the sixth.
Gavin Markus had two hits and two RBI. Dylan Luther stole two bases and scored two runs. Owen Zumbolo had two hits. Zander Cobb and Karson Gantt had an RBI each.
Luke Sitzman stole a pair of bases and scored a run. Brady Johnson had a stolen base and scored once.
Greenfield-Central (10-11, 7-6) and Shelbyville (13-8, 8-5) meet tonight at Shelbyville.
Dragons beat Trojans
New Palestine’s baseball team got within one-half game of the Hoosier Heritage Conference lead with an 8-1 win, at home, over New Castle Tuesday.
The Dragons trail Mt. Vernon. The Marauders’ HHC game with Yorktown Tuesday was postponed.
At New Pal Tuesday, Rigg Mahurin threw a two-hitter and did not give up an earned run. He struck out eight and walked three. He also had two hits and a run scored.
Nic Deering, Landon Ballard and Jacob Morris each hit triples.
Deering had an RBI and scored a run. Ballard drove in two and scored twice. Morris had a pair of hits, an RBI and scored two runs.
Jackson Kamp had an RBI and a run. Wyatt Matheis drove in a run and Adam Rickey scored a run.
New Castle led 1-0 in the middle of the fourth inning. The Dragons answered with three fourth-inning runs and tacked on five more in the fifth.
The teams will meet again tonight in their final conference games of the season at New Castle.
The Dragons are 19-5 overall and 10-3 in the HHC. New Castle dropped to 3-19 and 1-12.

Dragons win on the road
New Palestine’s boys golf team shot a round of 159 and defeated host Rushville at Antler Pointe Golf Course Tuesday.
Joey McPike was medalist with an even-par 37. Luke Cofer shot 38 and Nick Barada carded a 40.
