Teddy Bear Camp available to local residents

GREENFIELD – Drop off a stuffed animal to a Greenfield site to take part in an adventure in state parks this month.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has announced Teddy Bear Camp, where any stuffed animal belonging to a child ages 5-12 can “camp” in a variety of places and “learn” about history, architecture, preservation and more. Photos of stuffed animals camp adventures will be posted to social media.

Hancock County residents can drop off stuffed animals to the Hancock County Public Library from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 13. The library is located at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Pickup will be May 23 and May 29.

Participants must also fill out a registration form at in.gov/dnr/historic-preservation/public-outreach/teddy-bear-camp.

It is suggested that children do not send fragile or priceless stuffed animals to Teddy Bear Camp.

Bike Bash to promote safety at parks

GREENFIELD – Bike Bash is coming to Greenfield Parks and Recreation.

The inaugural event is set for 3-6 p.m. May 11 at the Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County, 715 E. Lincoln St., Greenfield. Free bike helmets will be available in the event that promotes safe biking in the city’s parks and trails. There will also be food, games, a bike wash station, obstacle course, handlebar decorating and giveaways. There’s also an opportunity to bring a bike and take a bike in a free swap. Nameless Creek Camp to host family event

GREENFIELD – A Free Family Fun Day is coming to Nameless Creek Camp.

The nonprofit camp just south of Greenfield is typically closed to private functions and groups, but there have been several improvements over the last few years and the board wants to show off the facility.

May events open to families at local libraries

GREENFIELD – Several events for children and teens are coming up at local libraries in May.

Celebrate Cinco De Mayo May 2 at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. Other Greenfield programs include a T-Rex Tea Party May 20 and a Lego Free Build event May 30. Bird watching events coming up

GREENFIELD – Birding is available to anyone at local parks through community events coming up.

Greenfield Birders hosts regular bird watching events. The next events are at 8 a.m. May 11 at Thornwood Nature Preserve, 8 a.m. May 25 at Thornwood; and 8 a.m. June 8 at Beckenholdt Family Park. Explore local parks in search of birds; events are one to two hours and there is no commitment so people can join for part or all of the time. Thornwood is mostly wooded hike on dirt trails so come prepared with attire; Beckenholdt has paved trails which makes the event accessible to most participants.
