Summer camp registration open
GREENFIELD – Registration is open for 2024 Summer Camp through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hancock County.
Camps are for ages 5-18 and run June 3 through July 19. Cost is $75 per week; activities include pool time, sports, games, STEM labs, Spanish lessons, arts and crafts, community service projects, field trips and more.

Family nature programs lined up
GREENFIELD – Several nature-themed activities for all ages are coming up at Greenfield Parks.
“Nature in your Own Backyard” is a program April 27 designed to allow people to discover biodiversity in their own community. Snakes will be featured in a program May 4. Indiana butterflies will be highlighted May 18, as well as fireflies in an evening program May 25.
Events take place at the Thornwood Nature Center and Thornwood Preserve, located at 1597 S. Morristown Pike, Greenfield. The 40-acre woodland on the city’s south side features seven trails, three creeks, a suspension bridge and more. The new nature center is having a grand opening later this summer, but free educational events will take place on site.

Heroes for Health run April 27
FORTVILLE – The first Heroes for Health 5K/1M Fun Run/Walk is coming up April 27.
The event is hosted by Mt. Vernon schools and the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation, and is designed to champion the mental health and overall well-being of students and staff. All proceeds benefit the foundation’s Tony May Legacy Fund, a resource for mental health and wellness programs within the school community.

Donations accepted for summer camp program
GREENFIELD – Nameless Creek Camp is accepting donations to help students get a summer camp experience.
The Plug Into Nature Camp will be July 8-12, offering children entering third through fifth grades a five-day experience with nature exploration, arts and crafts, sports and more. Earth Day event coming to Fortville
FORTVILLE – Celebrate Earth Day at a family event at the Vernon Township Public Library.
Drop by the library between 1-2 p.m. April 20 to pick up wildflower seed mix, create an Earth Day suncatcher, customize a garden marker and learn about ways to protect the planet. The library is located at 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville. For more information, visit vtpl.lib.in.us.
