HANCOCK COUNTY — An Indianapolis man who ran a stop sign, catching the attention of a Greenfield Police Department (GPD) officer, is now facing serious felony drug charges after officials found fentanyl, methamphetamine, cash and drug-dealing instruments in his possession last week.

Baron E. McCullough Jr., 37, 5700 block of E. 40th Street, has been charged with a Level 2 felony count of dealing a narcotic drug; a Level 2 felony count of dealing methamphetamine; a Level 3 felony count of possession of a narcotic drug; a Level 3 felony count of possession of methamphetamine and a Class A misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana.

Court records show McCullough made his initial appearance in Hancock County Superior Court 1 on Wednesday, where Senior Judge Daniel Lee Pflum set a $100,000 surety bond. McCullough is due back in court Wednesday, March 27 for his next hearing.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a GPD officer was at the intersection of West 5th Street and North Broadway Street facing east on March 6 when the officer observed a Chevrolet Malibu approaching the intersection from the east, traveling westbound on 5th Street. As the vehicle reached the intersection, the driver disregarded the stop sign and turned right, heading northbound on North Broadway Street, the affidavit stated.

The driver of the vehicle was also speeding, going 41 in a 30-mph speed zone, the officer noted, so the vehicle was stopped by the official in the 1600 block of North Broadway Street. McCullough was driving the vehicle and had a Florida ID, the officer stated in the report.

While speaking with McCullough, the officer observed a very strong odor of raw marijuana, the affidavit said.

“I also observed a tied-off plastic bag containing a white, pressed, powder-like substance in the driver’s door panel,” the officer stated in the report.

Due to the proximity of the tied-off plastic bag to McCullough, and it possibly being illegal narcotics, the officer noted the bag was removed from the vehicle. The pressed powder-like substance field-tested positive for fentanyl with an approximate weight of 2.23 grams, the affidavit said.

According to the affidavit, officers then searched McCullough and his vehicle and found $3,076 cash, approximately 6.08 grams of raw marijuana, a bag with approximately 229.24 grams of fentanyl tablets, a bag with blue round-shaped tablets that presumptive tested positive for the presence of fentanyl with an approximate weight of 18.89, a bag with blue round-shaped tablets that presumptive tested positive for the presence of fentanyl with an approximate weight of 87.97 grams, a bag with green round-shaped tablets that presumptive tested positive for the presence of fentanyl with an approximate weight of 37.56 grams and another bag with green round-shaped tablets that presumptive tested positive for the presence of fentanyl with an approximate weight of 128.71 grams.

The report noted that officers also found numerous bags containing a crystal-like substance which tested positive for methamphetamine, digital scales, a flip cell phone and multicolored plastic bags. In addition, officials found two other plastic bags, each containing pressed powder-like substances with an approximate combined weight of 65.19 grams. The pressed powder-like substances field tested positive for fentanyl.

McCullough was still listed as an inmate in the county jail at deadline Thursday.
