Band, guard to perform at community event

GREENFIELD – Watch performances by Greenfield-Central’s indoor winter band and guard programs in a free community event this week.

Community Night is at 7 p.m. Friday at the Greenfield-Central High School gym, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield. The event will feature performances by Winter Winds, Indoor Percussion, Open Guard, Cadet Guard and Junior Cadet Guard.

Daddy Daughter Dance returns April 6

GREENFIELD – “To the moon and back” is the theme of a Daddy Daughter Dance April 6 in Greenfield.

Greenfield Parks and Recreation is hosting the April 6 events, which are 3-5 p.m. for girls ages 3-6, and 6-8 p.m. for girls ages 7-12. The event will be at the Boys & Girls Club, 715 E. Lincoln St., Greenfield. Cost is $35 for residents, $37 for non-residents, $10 off a second ticket. Pre-registration is required at parks.greenfieldin.org. Parks summer camp registration open

GREENFIELD – Kids Kamp registration is now open through Greenfield Parks and Recreation.

The eight-week summer camp runs June 3 through July 26 and includes art, education, sports and more. Cost is $55 for registration, $60 for a field trip fee and $100 per week for residents, $110 per week for non-residents. Payment is for the entire summer program, regardless of whether children leave early or take a break for a vacation.

Camp Invention returning this summer

HANCOCK COUNTY – Camp Invention is returning to local schools in Hancock County, offering elementary students a summer experience with science, technology, engineering, art and math.

Camp Invention, a national program, is for students entering grades 1-6. Cost is $270 but a discount is available at registration and for siblings.

Mt. Comfort Elementary School in the Mt. Vernon district offers the program June 3-7, while J. B. Stephens Elementary School in Greenfield offers it July 22-26. Learn more at invent.org/camp or email [email protected].

Libraries hosting family programs

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several family-friendly programs continue this month through Hancock County’s libraries.

The Hancock County Public Library will host storytimes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers throughout the month. Registration is no longer necessary; show up early for a ticket to enter. View days and times at hcplibrary.org.

The HCPL in Greenfield will host a kids arts and crafts program this Thursday; a Lego program March 21; and a Willy Wonka Chocolate Party March 28. The Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL in New Palestine will host a Rhythm and Hues music/art workshop this Thursday; and a Clean out the Craft Closet event March 19. Children have opportunities to read to an opossum and dogs in March as well. Family programs in March include a game night event March 18; a storyteller March 21 and a saxophone quartet March 25. K101 returns this summer

GREENFIELD – A free, week-long experience helping youngsters prepare for kindergarten returns this summer.

Kindergarten 101 is July 22-26 at JB Stephens Elementary School, 1331 N. Blue Road, Greenfield. Students enrolling in the 2024-25 school year will be able to participate in common kindergarten activities, such as lunch, recess, small group activities, daily read alouds and more. The goal is to install a love of learning and excitement to prepare for a successful school year.
