GREENFIELD
George T. Roland, 88, of Greenfield passed away on the morning of Monday, March 11, 2024 at Woodland Terrace of New Palestine.
He was born on October 26, 1935 in Hancock County, Indiana, a son of the late Russell and Goldie (Zaph) Roland.
George graduated from Carthage High School in 1954 where he played sports and later served in the United States Army. He worked at Eli Lilly in Greenfield in agriculture research and retired after 34 years. George was a former member of the East Street Christian Church in Carthage as well as the Greensboro Methodist Church. He was a current member of the Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and enjoyed farming, golfing, IU basketball and Three Quarter Midget Racing.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary (Fields) Wyatt-Roland; children, Danette (Gary) Shultz, Douglas (Nancy) Roland and Debra Roland; step-children, Bruce (Kelli) Wyatt and Beth Ann Carver; grandchildren, Luke (Abby) Keaton, Kyle (Lauren) Roland, Lindsey (Jon) Bell, Robbie (Casie) Roland, Kelli Jo Roland; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Bell, Karsyn Bell, June Keaton, Jimmy Roland, Addi Clark; four step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Roland and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phillis (Hull) Roland; brothers, Earl Roland, Robert Roland, Russell Roland Jr., Harry Roland; sisters, Dorothy Roland and Marjorie (Roland) Fox Hale.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Heritage Funeral Care in Knightstown with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery.
