DAR recognizes volunteer work

KNIGHTSTOWN – Several members of a local Daughters of the American Revolution organization were honored for their service.

Sherry Rigney and Linda Ashwill were recognized for 25 and 40 years respectively with the Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter of the DAR at a March meeting in Knightstown.

Others were acknowledged for their 2023 volunteer hours within DAR and the community: members reported more than 1,600 hours last year. The chapter also gained state and national recognition for their work with active military personnel and veterans.

The chapter will have an event recognizing Vietnam-era veterans and widows at 1 p.m. March 30 at the Henry County Veterans Museum at Memorial Park. They’ll also have a Liberty Tree dedication May 4 at the same park. The group’s next meeting will be at 1 p.m. April 6 at Knightstown First Christian Church.

Real estate topic of April Chamber event

GREENFIELD – Learn about the current market of real estate and financial conditions in Hancock County in an upcoming meeting of the Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

The meeting will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 2 at NineStar Connect, 2243 E. Main St., Greenfield. Guest speakers are real estate agents James Abner, Anna Brennan and Hart Summeier; and banking/mortgage experts Mark Griffin, Jake Kersey and Sarah Riggs.

Shrine club to host meeting

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Shrine Club will have a meeting and meal at 6:30 p.m. March 26.

Business women event April 23

GREENFIELD – Local business women are invited to an informational and enrollment event of the American Business Women’s Association.

The event will be from 6-8 p.m. April 23 at Hometown Classic Pizza, 1002 Main St., Greenfield. The event theme is “find unity in community” andmembers will share the ABWA experience for personal and professional growth. Pizza is provided; beverages available for purchase. Rotary Club to host community open house

GREENFIELD – The Rotary Club of Greenfield will host a community open house in March with college basketball, food and fellowship.

The free event, scheduled for noon to 2 p.m. March 21, will be at the Thrive Center, 971 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield. The event, sponsored by Shepherd Insurance, is designed to bring together people from all walks of life to celebrate community spirit and foster connections. Attendees will be able to watch college basketball, enjoy food and drinks in a family-friendly environment. People can also learn about the Rotary Club of Greenfield’s various community initiatives and how to get involved. Chamber accepting award nominations

GREENFIELD – The 2024 Community Walk of Fame Awards Celebration is scheduled for June 27, and organizers are accepting award nominations and donations now.

The event is hosted by the Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce. It will be at St. Michael Parish Life Center, 519 Jefferson St., Greenfield from 6-8 p.m. June 27.

The chamber recognizes exemplary individuals and businesses in the community who dedicate outstanding efforts above and beyond their usual job performance. Awards include businessman of the year, businesswoman of the year, community hero award, nonprofit community service of the year, entrepreneurial spirit and chamber champion award. Nominations are due May 3; forms can be found by emailing [email protected].
