EHES to host kindergarten events
CHARLOTTESVILLE – Eastern Hancock Elementary School will host kindergarten roundup events from 3:30-8 p.m. March 13-14, and online enrollment is open now for children starting kindergarten in the 2024-2025 school year.
Children in Blue River, Brown and Jackson townships attend Eastern Hancock schools. To start the process to enroll, visit easternhancock.org and follow the QR code to request enrollment for school year registration.
The roundup will be at the school, 10450 E. 250N., Charlottesville. Parents should bring their child for a kindergarten readiness assessment, as well as a birth certificate, shot records and proof of residency.
For those that live outside of the district but want to attend the school, a link for a transfer form will be sent upon completion of enrollment.
G-C plans trip to Dominican Republic
GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central schools recently announced an opportunity for G-C students to go to the Dominican Republic.
A trip is being organized for summer of 2025 and will include whitewater rafting, ziplining, pottery workshop, jujitsu class, snorkeling and more. The trip is open to students in eighth through 12th grade. Email [email protected] for more.
Band program to benefit from mattress sale
NEW PALESTINE – A local high school is hosting a company selling mattresses March 10, with a portion of sales to benefit its music program.
Custom Fundraising Solutions will be at New Palestine High School from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 10 at 4485 S. Victory Drive, New Palestine

Poehlein named to dean’s list
MCCORDSVILLE – Hunter Poehlein of McCordsville was among nearly 1,850 students named to the dean’s list for Bradley University for the fall 2023 semester.
To be eligible for the honor list, a student must achieve a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average. Bradley University is a private university located in Peoria, Ill.
EH schools to host open house tours
CHARLOTTESVILLE – Eastern Hancock schools will host an open house event for new/prospective students and families from 6-7:30 p.m. March 19.
People interested in learning more about EH schools can tour the campus, ask questions of the principals and more. About 35% of EH students live outside of the district; the transfer process opens April 1 and space is limited.

Tours begin at 6 p.m. with the elementary school (enter door 4); 6:30 p.m. at the middle school (enter door 10) and 7 p.m. high school (enter door 10). Sorority to award scholarships
GREENFIELD – Tri Kappa, a local service sorority, is seeking Hancock County applicants for local scholarships to be awarded for the 2024-25 academic year. Deadline to submit applications is March 31.
Scholarships include: high school scholarship for seniors Hancock County high schools (a total of $5,000 will be awarded); Mary Ann Strawmyer Pickett Continuing Studies Scholarship for women at least 25 years old (a total of $500 will be awarded); Helen Roath Memorial Continuing Education Scholarship for people who have had their normal course of education interrupted for any reason (a total of $800 will be awarded).
