GREENFIELD — Former State Senator Bev Gard recently endorsed Republican candidate Kevin Mandrell for State Representative of District 53.

Having a long history of knowing each other, Gard said that she could “without a doubt” speak to Mandrell’s dedication to Hancock County and his commitment for the people.

Gard has had an active presence in the Greenfield community, serving on the Greenfield City Council from 1976 to 1988. Gard then represented Hancock County at the state level, serving as State Senator for 24 years, from 1988 to 2012.

“He understands the needs of this area, and I am confident in his ability to work hard and use his common-sense mentality at the statehouse,” said Gard in a recent press release. “He is the right choice for the Republican primary for State Representative.”

Mandrell currently resides in New Palestine with his wife of 39 years, Annette, and together have two adult chidlren and four grandchildren. Mandrell is Director of Employee Benefits at WalkerHughes Insurance and also serves as Board President for Bosma Enterprises. He also serves on the boards of Youth Opportunity Center, Arthritis Foundation, Zoey’s Place, and Rush Memorial Hospital. Mandrell and his wife attend Brookville Road Community Church.

Mandrell’s platform states that he plans to focus on fiscal responsibilities, defending unborn life and advocating for disabilities and mental health issues while also focusing on lowering taxes and regulations.

Mandrell says that, with his lifetime experience in business as an entrepreneur and employee, if elected as State Representative he will work to make Indiana a friendlier place to start, grow and work at a business.

“Because of my vast business experience, I can truly represent the views and concerns of those in business, both private sector and public,” Mandrell said.

Mandrell also plans to focus on healthcare, gun rights and overall support for small businesses.

Mandrell said in a press release that he plans to implement Gard’s legacy of service and work given at the Statehouse, addressing issues the people in District 53 face.

“Bev Gard has been an advocate for our community for decades,” said Mandrell in the press release. “Her service to Hancock County and the 28th District is admirable, and she has always been someone I could count on for guidance and support. I am truly honored to have her endorsement.”
