Club to discuss herb of the year

GREENFIELD – “All Things Yarrow” is the theme of an upcoming meeting of the Hancock County Herb Society.

Yarrow is the 2024 Herb of the Year, and a program about the plant will be at 6:30 p.m. March 7 at ‘Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen, located behind the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Museum, 250 W. Main St., Greenfield. Mary Greenan, Ellen Manolopoulos and Gwen Betor will present on the history, uses and propagation of yarrow.

Student art exhibit throughout March

GREENFIELD – See art from Hancock County’s junior and senior high school students in an upcoming exhibit.

The Twenty North Gallery will host pieces from Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon and New Palestine public schools as well as the Greenfield Homeschool Co-op throughout March. A reception will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 8 at the gallery, 20 N. State St., Greenfield. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Shelter in place discussion coming up

GREENFIELD – Learn how to shelter in place during a tornado or other emergency in an upcoming event.

Hancock County Homeland Security will have a discussion at 7 p.m. March 7 on the supplies in an at-home kit for sheltering in place, and what to do if an emergency happens while you are at work, school or in your car.

The event will be at the Hancock County Emergency Operations Center, 620 S. Franklin St., Greenfield. It’s hosted by Hancock County Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD), a network of individuals, businesses and civic organizations interested in disaster recovery planning for the local community. Food distribution program at MVHS

FORTVILLE – The Gleaners/Mt. Vernon food bank is available at Mt. Vernon High School.

The drive-through style food pantry distributes dry, non-perishable food, meat and more to districts in the Mt. Vernon district twice a month. Cars should line up at Door 20 of the school, 8112 N. 200W., Fortville.

Business networking event March 6

GREENFIELD – An upcoming event is designed to bring together small business owners, professionals and community leaders in a networking experience.

“Connect the Community” will be hosted by Rotary District 6560 in collaboration with INSPIREsmall.biz, a small business community.

The event will be from 3-6 p.m. March 6 at the Community Foundation of Hancock County, 971 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield. The event will include networking, door prizes, appetizers and a cash bar. “Joy”ful teachers conference returns to EHHS

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Joy Jam returns this summer to Eastern Hancock schools.

The educational conference will be July 15-16 at Eastern Hancock High School. The event is designed to bring joy to educators, not only with speakers, but also a candy room, coffee shop and a puppy room for participants to enjoy. MVEF to host annual gala

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation will host its 2024 Black and Gold Gala next month.

“Together We Are Illuminating Futures” is the theme of the event set for 5:30-11:30 p.m. April 6 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. Event highlights include a VIP reception, cocktail reception and silent auction, dinner and program and dancing. The event is an opportunity to celebrate contributions from staff and teacher of the year award winners, distinguished alumni, business partners and more. Emcee will be Rafael Sanchez.
