Radios, candles and plenty of batteries are some of the items emergency planners urge families to have in a pack in case of an emergency or evacuation situation. A workshop is coming up in March at the Hancock County Public Library to help local residents learn how to prepare.

Emergency pack workshop coming up

GREENFIELD – Learn how to have your family prepared for an emergency in an upcoming event at the Hancock County Public Library.

The Emergency Pack Workshop is at 6:30 p.m. March 14 at the central library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

Joe Fitzgerald of Homeland Security and Hancock County Emergency Management will discuss and demonstrate the differences in emergency kits and how to determine what’s right for each family. The event will help participants understand how to prepare for a 72-hour plan in case of a natural disaster or evacuation emergency.

Registration is at hcplibrary.org. An online tool to help families plan for emergencies is also found at ready.gov/plan.

Spring fashion show to benefit Special Olympics

GREENFIELD – Special Olympics of Hancock County will host a spring fashion show fundraiser.

The event is at 2 p.m. March 3 at Cynthia’s Hallmark Boutique, 1584 N. State St., Greenfield. Tickets are $10 and include a free piece of jewelry, appetizers, door prizes and store coupons.

Golf outing in memory of Riley Settergren

KNIGHTSTOWN – The seventh annual Riley Charles Settergren Foundation Golf Outing is coming up in June, and registration opens March 1.

The event is in memory of the Eastern Hancock senior who was killed in a car crash in 2017.

The event will be at 8 a.m. June 7 at Royal Hylands Golf Club, 7629 S. Greensboro Pike, Knightstown. The foundation was established by his parents, Jay and Tammy Settergren, to raise money for scholarships to help grow local schools and the athletic programs, 4-H Groups and other ventures their son loved.
